Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a civilian Advanced Office Clerk (Department of Behavioral Health) at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland.

SUMMARY:

Provides clerical/administrative support. Schedules appointments in MHS GENESIS for
primary care, specialty and subspecialty medical care. In addition to scheduling requested appointments, this position will call patients to schedule, reschedule, and/or cancel appointments as needed, to include appointments for consult/referral specialty care within the MTF. Serves as a medical records technician to process and maintain inpatient, outpatient or ambulatory procedure unit medical records. Required to compile or extract medical records data to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.

This contract position offers:

    Full Time Hours Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Job Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • College graduate-level writing and communication skills.
  • Possess ability to use standard office equipment, such as computers, typewriters, copiers, fax machines, telephone systems and office automations systems, to perform a substantial range of medical record maintenance support.
  • Possess general medical ethics, telephone etiquette, and excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Possess knowledge of the scope of care of their unit/clinic, knowledge of the unit/clinics policies and procedures
  • Possess knowledge of how to refer or transfer patients to other medical clinics/units for appropriate tests, consultations or care.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the contents and order for assembling medical records, paper and electronic, the requirements for periodic review and update of records.
  • Possess knowledge of medical terminology required to transcribe appropriate entries into medical records and other medical documents and forms.
  • Possess sufficient knowledge of clinic/unit functions and services to properly arrange patient appointments or inpatient bed availability to prevent conflicts in patient care and treatment.
  • Possess knowledge of regulations, guidelines, and policies related to patients and the authority under which the Ambulatory Data System (ADS); Corporate Information System (CIS), and Patient Appointment System (PAS) are applied and how they function. As an Advanced Office Clerk, Contractor employee is responsible for the central management of scheduling/appointing system.
  • Shall be able to read, write, speak and understand English.
  • Be a U.S citizen.
  • At least one year in medical office scheduling, in an office setting, or at least one year
    of relevant experience.
